Welcome to my blog! The purpose of this blog is to raise awareness of how global warming is affecting the Arctic Sea ice. Particularly how it is impacting the lives of Polar Bears, whose main habitat is sea ice. Gradually, the earth has been warming due to anthropological forces. This increase in temperature has been causing Arctic Sea ice to retract more each year. Sea ice is not regenerating to its full capacity and this has created a great disturbance in the livelihood of Polar Bears. This disturbance has drastically changed the interactions that Polar Bears have with their environment, resulting in a decline in their population. This blog will investigate the different ways that Polar Bears are affected by the loss of their habitat, the sea ice. As temperatures and the loss of ice increase, Polar Bears will have many adjustments to make to their ever changing environment. These may include phenological shifts and
phenotypic plasticity to new terrestrial habitats, new interactions with land-based species, and adaptations through many generations in order for the species to survive.
